Dr. Mohamed HelmyClinical nutrition consultant4 min readPeople look for the one big change that will transform their health. In practice it is the small, repeated things that matter. A habit you can keep for a year beats a perfect plan you abandon in two weeks.
Start with these
- A breakfast containing protein — it reduces hunger and sugar cravings later
- Vegetables in at least two meals
- Water spread through the day, not all at once
- A 20–30 minute walk, ideally after your largest meal
- Sleeping at consistent times where you can
- Reduce added sugar gradually rather than cutting it overnight
Going gradually is not weakness — abrupt change is the most common reason people revert to old habits.
Where not to spend your effort
- Plans that cut an entire food group with no medical reason
- Supplements without tests showing a deficiency
- Weighing yourself daily — day-to-day fluctuation is normal and misleading
